This paper considers the theme of education in a classic black account and in a modern one, the classic acocunt being Booker T. Washington (as well as Frederick Douglass and W.E.B. Du Bois) while the modern one is Malcom X and his autobiogrpahy, all showing the importance of education in the black community and the way it can be used to improve the economic life of individuals and the community alike.
