This three page undergraduate paper examines why universal human rights are not really universal, for in many countries political, social, economic, and religious factors continue to be influential in determining the extent to which human rights are protected or abused. Ultimately, the status of individual human rights has been determined by each culture or society, based upon prevailing beliefs concerning their relative value. The worst offenders of human rights are the socialist and Islamic states, which continue to suppress the human rights of many citizens, especially women.
