This paper examines the sources for continued conflict throughout Africa. Specifically, it briefly discusses the role that ethnicity, economic development, and resource scarcity play in heightening social stresses and unrest in the region. The paper makes the final claim that despite efforts to improve economic conditions in the region, strife is likely to increase rather than decrease in the current century.
